It’s time for Charleston Lowcountry Featured Best Restaurants! This week it’s Laura Alberts!
Meet my Dining Partner for this Charleston Lowcountry Featured Best Restaurants!
Meet Ashley! Ashley chose Laura Alberts on Daniel Island as a potential for one of the Charleston Lowcountry Featured Best Restaurants spots. And they definitely made the list as an easy addition.
Now Ashley and I LOVE to go to lunch…we always have a really great time. It was her turn to choose the restaurant. She said we HAVE to go to Laura Alberts in Daniel Island!
The Apps…
As you know, we always throw down a TON of food to give you guys the best overview of every restaurant we try. This time was no different!
The White Bean and Ham Soup: We started with the White Bean and Ham Soup, which was the Soup of the Day. Laura Alberts has ever-changing daily specials, which is super-cool.
This lovely soup looked and tasted very much like my mom used to make! It was very homestyle. I like mine a bit more peppery. A shake of pepper fixed that! The soup had a beautiful color and a smoky ham flavor that was just yummy!
Laura’s Trio: The presentation was just breathtaking on this beautiful combination of crab dip, shrimp paste, and jalapeno pimiento cheese spread, garnished with greens, and served with different types of crackers for all palates!
The jalapeno pimiento was beautiful. Sweet pimiento married just right with the cheddar and just a hint of jalapeno that did not overheat. Probably the best pimiento cheese I have had in a long time.
Fried Green Tomatoes: These fried green tomatoes had a breaded crust which was a welcome change. I LOVE a crispy crust on just about anything. Much better than a flour dredge any day! The seasoning was sweet along with the savory, and reminded me of hush puppies, actually! Tomato was cooked perfectly, still firm, without the bitterness of raw green tomato. The chutney was beautiful and refreshing, as were the two different types of pimiento cheese-plain and pesto pimiento cheese accompanying this tasty appetizer.
Cindy’s Main Course…
Chicken Salad Croissant: I chose Laura Alberts Chicken Salad Croissant off the lunch menu as my main course. Laura’s chicken salad croissant had a seasoning that made me just not able to get enough! The chicken was tender and was amazingly delicious. The croissant is always my go-to for sandwich bread, and chicken salad definitely tastes the best on a croissant. The extra sweetness from the tomato and the crunch from the lettuce pleased all the senses. I chose the homemade chips as my side, and although a few were a little more done than I like, I LOVED the bleu cheese crumbles! Bleu cheese was a garnish I wasn’t expecting on house-made chips. How lovely that was to accompany these house-made chips that were perfectly salty and crispy.
Ashley’S Main Course…
Mahi with Asparagus and Squash: Ashley ordered the Mahi with sauteed squash and asparagus. She ordered her fish pan-fried and the asparagus as the side. The crust was tasty and the fish was perfectly moist, but Ashley felt it did not have the crispness that would compliment this dish.
Pan-fried mahi was served with a beautiful mango curry aioli, and was garnished with tomato. The asparagus and summer squash were overcooked for her taste, and I agree…we both like our asparagus and squash to have a bit of crisp, and this was totally soft.
The Wine…
I ordered a house Riesling which was absolutely delicious. Crisp and sweet, as expected. Ashley ordered the house special Frose, which was berry puree topped with lemon basil sugar. This concoction was a beautiful, fruity, delicious concoction.
Dessert…
Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie: What can I say? Decadent deliciousness! The chocolate along with the hint of bourbon which compliments the pecan pie and takes it to a completely elevated level. The homemade whipped cream with just a hint of sweetness made this the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
Thank you, Ashley, for joining me for this lovely lunch at a really cool place nestled conveniently in the little paradise called Daniel Island. I can’t wait for our next adventure!
