So, it’s that time of year where things are starting to cool down. Some people think, summer’s over, so camping is over! BUUUUTTTTT we live in the Charleston Lowcountry, right?! This is the BEST time to go camping! The weather is cooler, the bugs are fewer, and it’s just beautiful out there while the leaves are changing. Read below to find out where the places are for the BEST Charleston Lowcountry Camping!
Charleston Lowcountry Camping at Woodlands Nature Reserve
My favorite place on earth is Woodlands Nature Reserve. Woodlands Nature reserve is a privately owned, financially self-sustaining reserve spanning over 6000 acres. This beautiful nature preserve includes 11 lakes, a blackwater swamp, and an abundance of natural beauty and wildlife. This breathtaking location is perfect for camping!
You can even have your wedding there, and then honeymoon in one of their tiny homes or Zun Tents! They are amazing. They have tons of spots for your tent or RV as well, from secluded to lake views. Gorgeous.
Not a camper? That’s cool, too. Just go out for the day! Woodlands Nature Reserve has tons of events for you to go to, they have tours, walking trails….your options are endless.
If you are a nature enthusiast and you have an event coming up, Woodlands is the perfect spot. At 4279 Ashley River Road, Woodlands Nature Reserve is located just outside of Charleston. Check out Woodlands Nature Reserve for your next camping trip! Book your trip at woodlandsnaturereserve.com.
Charleston Lowcountry Camping at James Island County Park
So, you want to be near EVERYTHING, have tons of amenities, and don’t want to be stuck in the middle of nature, but still feel like you are? James Island County Park Camping and Cottages is your perfect Stay-cation camping experience!
The campground is super close to the beach, AND they have a water park, climbing wall, volleyball, disc golf course, spray fountain, saltwater fishing and crabbing (license required), and on and on and on.
The campground has not only primitive camping, they have cottages and RV/Camper sites. Their rates are reasonable, and there are discounts available for seniors/military. They even offer shuttle service to downtown and Folly!
The cottages are quaint, and nicely sized, with a full kitchen, living room, bedrooms, and full screened-in porches to make outdoor time even comfier. They even have satellite TV. Now that is Charleston Lowcountry camping to me! LOL!
CCPRC.com has more details, just click on James Island County Park for more information regarding camping and all that the park has to offer! The campground is located at 871 Riverland Drive in Charleston.
Charleston Lowcountry Camping at Givhans Ferry State Park
The best river Charleston Lowcountry camping, in my opinion, is nestled in Ridgeville at Givhans Ferry State Park Campground. Located along the Edisto River, you will be in chill-time heaven with the beauty, fun, and adventure that this South Carolina State Park has to offer! Givhans Ferry State Park is located at 746 Givhans Ferry Road in Ridgeville.
For tent camping, they have 25 campsites along the river for you to enjoy everything river camping has to offer, including spotting water wildlife and foliage, hiking, dense woods as well as open spaces, and fishing! Whether you are looking to camp in your tent under the stars, or have a cabin or villa for a more luxurious camping experience, Givhans has everything you need.
The cabins are located on a bluff overlooking the Edisto River, so enjoy your coffee in the morning on your screened-in porch. All cabins are completely furnished, heated, air-conditioned, and supplied with bath and bed linens, basic cooking and eating utensils, a coffee maker, microwave, and a television.
Camping sites include full service with electric service as well as water and sewer, and of course, there are tons of primitive sites as well, both by the water and not. There is trailside camping for those who like tents, but need the comforts of electricity and water. You’ll also love that a picnic table and pedestal grill are already set up!
