Have you tried Vicious Biscuit? Charleston Living with Cindy was at Vicious Biscuit last week and had an amazing time!
I have to tell you, if you want a breakfast or brunch that is out of this world, you HAVE to try Vicious Biscuit! They have two locations in the Charleston Lowcountry, one at 206 Front Street in Summerville, and the other is 409 W Coleman Blvd in Mount Pleasant. You can find them on Facebook, too!
Vicious Biscuit offers amazing Breakfast and Brunch items, as well as brunch-style drinks at their bar. They are open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Lauren took care of me, and I have to say, Vicious Biscuit is LUCKY to have her! She was so knowledgeable and was more than happy to tell me all about Vicious Biscuit. She told me about a couple more of their biscuit types, and I added two of the jalapeno biscuits to my order because of her! They were ready just a minute later. She made sure I didn’t miss the butter/jam bar, and she described the different types to me. She even gave her recommendations on her faves for the jalapeno biscuits (you were right, by the way, it was the blackberry was amazing on them, but the apple was my fave for sure). Lauren is certainly an asset to Vicious Biscuit…she should be the face of the company!
Butter and Jam Bar
Not only does Vicious Biscuit have amazing biscuits, but they also have a jam and butter bar. Are you getting your meal to go? No worries! They have to-go cups for you to take as much as you like, of any or all of the flavors!
Mimosa or Bloody Mary craving?
Whether it’s a Mimosa or Bloody Mary you’re craving, Vicious Biscuit has an amazing bar that offers not only those specialty brunch concoctions, but they have their own slew of signature cocktails to quench any craving! Check HERE for their full signature cocktail and craft beer menu.
The Food!
Now Allen and I got ours to go, but if you want to stay in and eat, they have tons of seating as well as seating at the bar!
Shrimp and Grits
Allen ordered the Shrimp and grits, which is an open-faced buttermilk biscuit, blackened shrimp, creamy Lowcountry gravy, white cheddar stone-ground grits, topped with thick-cut bacon crumbles & chives. Everyone knows that shrimp and grits in the Lowcountry will vary from place to place. The S&G I make at home has its own twist, you know? This S&G did not disappoint.
The presentation, especially for a to-go order, was beautiful! The grits were creamy and smooth, the gravy was tasty with a little smoky flavor going on. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and there was just the right amount of garnish with the bacon and chives. The grits literally felt like they were going to melt in your mouth.
Rise-N-Swine Benny
The Rise-n-Swine Benny, buttermilk biscuit, with a sunny up egg on top of their smoked pulled pork, smothered in BBQ hollandaise sauce, paprika and chive garnish was a surprise (see Pro-Tip at bottom). The smoked pulled pork had a beautiful consistency and moisture, which is super important, because even Barbecue places can get the pulled pork too dry. The flavor was indeed smoky, and I was surprised at how beautifully it went with the egg (the egg was overcooked though). The BBQ hollandaise was a different twist, but of course, what kind of hollandaise are you going to have on a pulled pork Benny? I will do this again, but I would really love to try the more traditional Vicious Benny as well as their Crab Cake Benny. Yum, right?
Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits
Per my girl’s recommendation, we tried both the blackberry and the apple jams, and they were delicious. Everyone who knows me, knows that I can’t do jalapenos, really, so I was very timid going in, but you know what? These biscuits were amazing with a robust cheddar flavor, and just enough bite that won’t leave a mark, but definitely adds a zing to these biscuits. Great recommendation!
Home Fries and Maple Sausage Gravy
So when I went through Basic Training for the Air Force, one thing you had to do was basically swallow your breakfast down in about 30 seconds. No matter what I ordered in line, I learned fast that gravy over everything made you able to swallow anything fast! It sounds weird, I know, but now with more traditional breakfast food, I LOVE gravy over everything.
Anyway, so I ordered some home fries and gravy just to check out their maple sausage gravy. DO NOT LEAVE VICIOUS BISCUIT WITHOUT TRYING THE GRAVY. LOL! Seriously! I poured the gravy over the home fries, and dug in! The potatoes very flavorful, and just the right combination of crispy outside and tenderness inside. The gravy was just the way I love it…creamy, peppery but not too peppery, and true southern home-style sausage gravy, but even better. Kudos to you guys!
Biscuits and Gravy
The biscuits were so freaking flaky, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, just like Mom and Grandma make…only better. (Don’t tell Mom and Grandma that). But with a name like Vicious Biscuit, you know, you better have great biscuits, right? Not sure if the jams are homemade or not, but they sure do taste it. The apple is almost an apple butter, but deliciously different. The blackberry tastes as if I just went out and picked them from my back yard, and made the jam myself. I even tried the biscuits dipped in the maple sausage gravy, and then regretted not getting more gravy so that I could have everything!
The next time I go, I’m going to have a hard time deciding what I’ll try. I do know that I can’t wait to go back! Oh! Don’t feel like going out? They’re on Door Dash, too!
Pro Tip: Make sure you check your bag on to-go orders. I put in a To-Go phone order, so there is one thing that I want to give you a heads up about. Our order consisted of the Vicious Benny, a more traditional Eggs Benedict that was supposed to have buttermilk biscuit with two sunny-side-up eggs over ham, smothered in hollandaise sauce, paprika, and chive garnish. I received the Rise-N-Swine Benny, which was the buttermilk biscuit, a sunny-side-up egg (mine had a hard yolk) on top of their smoked pulled pork, smothered in barbecue hollandaise sauce, paprika, and chive garnish. I was really looking forward to a more traditional Benny, but the Rise-N-Swine was good.
